The Brains are Built Campaign is aimed at supporting members of the African American community who are caring for our babies – parents, grandparents, family, friends, neighbors, childcare providers, faith communities, and community organizations.

The list below includes trusted community organizations who provide culturally supportive services to African American families and their children:

• Black Men’s Project – A group for African American men – For more information contact Samuel Simmons
• Circle of Parents – mutual self-help support groups for families. For more information or to find a group near you, please contact Lisa Deputie the Metro Program Coordinator at MCCC/PCAMN at ldeputie@pcamn.org.
• Club Mom – A group for moms of children birth to 5 years old – For more information call Tamiko at 651-266-1585
• Community Conversations:  Living Room Conversations (geared to adults) and Kickin’ It (geared to young adults 17-21). 53 Community Conversation Host have been trained since December 2014 in four separate cohorts on topics such as ACE’s, historical trauma, and more. These hosts are out in the community hosting conversations in schools, local organizations, churches, and homes. We are looking for more passionate African Americans to attend our next training, and to continue to spread the positive message that “Brains are Built, not Born”. The NEXT training of Community Conversation Hosts will take place on December 9th and 10th. • Courageous Change Collective – A group that offers racial equity training and consulting around community engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), collaboration, and systems change. For more information contact info@courageouschangecollective.org.
• How Trauma Effects Early Childhood – A training for parents, community members, and service providers – For more information call Nedra Robinson
• Kofi Services– Kofi Services are culturally specific, school and home-based programs developed to increase the positive functioning of African-American youth in the home, school, and community. This positive functioning is intended to foster social/emotional well-being, a sense of confidence, competence, and cultural consciousness.
• NdCad (Network for the Development of Children of African Descent)– The Network for the Development of Children of African Descent (NdCAD) is a family education center based in St. Paul, Minnesota.
